21 Months

Henry, you are 21 months old! You are such a big boy and doing all sorts of fun things. You keep us busy, but you're also able to entertain yourself so Mommy can get things done around the house. You still love trains, trucks, buses, cars, bicycles, and anything else with wheels. You love to stand at your table and push your Thomas trains around and you say "whoo whoo" (name for firetruck) or "vroo"

You can count to eleven. It sounds like "ahhn, oot, eee, oor, iii, hic, eh-en, aiht, iii, en, ev-eh" we read a lot of books and count things on the pages so I think that's where you learned it and you enjoy Sesame Street (way more than Super Why now) so I'm sure you picked it up from there. You actually get the concept of quantities (How many trucks do you see? How many birds are flying? You count how many you see.) and have not just memorized the order of numbers. You count things all day long. You know that you are one and will hold up your pointer finger and tell me you're one if I ask you. So cute!

You know all the letters and are starting to name them when we go through books. You can say A, B, C, D, E, F, H, I, L, M, O, P, R, S, and U. We've taught you to say the sound that the letter makes instead of just the name (although you do know the names) to make it easier for you to learn how to read. When you look at the titles of books or big signs you will say the letters that you can pronounce so it's neat to see you get that concept. You can also match things you see in books with your toys. You will see a firetruck or dump truck for example in a book and immediately go to your basket of trucks and pull out the matching truck. You saw a coat in a book recently, did the sign for coat, and then ran across the room and pulled out your coat that was sitting there in a stacked pile of shirts. Only a corner of your coat was sticking out and I have no idea when you saw your coat in that pile.

You have done really well with signing. You can sign more, all done, bath, milk, thank you, please, cracker, coat, hat, eat. Those are all the signs we've taught you. I would love to teach you more! You know all your body parts eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, tongue, ears, chin, cheek, neck, elbows, belly, belly button, knees, feet, toes, hands, and fingers. Daddy will ask you where is your mustache and you put your little finger over your top lip like you have a mustache. You love to play a game with Mommy and Daddy where one of us does something funny like put our arms above our head or clap and then the rest of us copy. Kind of like the game where the last person to catch on to what everyone else is doing looses.

You love bath time. You love to "wrestle" with Daddy before bed. It's one of my favorite times of the day getting to see you and Daddy laugh and play together. Daddy throws you over his shoulders and tells you to scratch his back. You are upside down and laugh and grab Daddy's shirt up and down. You are so ticklish. You love to jump on the bed and fall down. You can swing in a big boy swing, but definitely prefer your regular swing. You have started trying to run away from us to test your limits. You have thrown mini tantrums before, but at 21 months you had your first really big tantrum for Mommy. Thankfully we were home! You haven't done that since.

You have had a few haircuts since October's first haircut. Your hair grows fast! You love Bob the Builder, Sesame Street, Thomas the Train, Super Why, Curious George, and Cat in the Hat in no particular order. You got a Sir Toppham Hatt car for Christmas and you really love it and finding Sir Toppham Hatt in your books. You still love music and will dance. You love to cheer for yourself and/or others when they do something right. You say uh-oh for anytime you mess up or you see someone else drop something, etc. Sometimes you drop things just to say uh-oh.

You are working on learning your shapes and colors. You know circle, square, triangle, trapezoid, star, and heart. I know you play with hexagons and pentagons, but I don't know if you remember the differences in them yet. You love your Mr. Potato Head. Anytime you have two of something or you make a match you will put one in each hand and put them over your head. You like to play with pipe cleaners sometimes.

You love to be outside and running around and exploring. You love to throw leaves in your hair and try to rake things. You love playing in gravel. You try to show Rouge love and enjoy helping me put Rouge in her crate and get her out again. You like to climb on your step stool and stand there. Last week in the nursery, they told me that when a little girl was really upset and crying you sweetly tried to give her a doll to make her feel better. You never look back when I drop you off at the nursery or MMO.

Henry, you are doing so many new things and learning so much. We are so thankful for the joy you bring our family! We love you!
